George Gordon Brode


He graduated from Cornell University with a degree of C.E. (Civil Engineer) in 1934. Employed 1934-1936 with U.S. Engineers on construction of dams for the Muskingum Conservancy District in eastern Ohio. In 1936 he joined the W. M. Brode Co., railroad and highway contractors, as V. Pres. Entered U.S. Navy October, 1942 as Lt. (JG) in Civil Engineer Corps. Served thirty-one months overseas in South Pacific, Southwest Pacific, and Central Pacific. Awarded battle stars for participation in New Guinea, Bismark Archipelago and Okinawa campaigns, while attached to 40th USN CB. This unit was awarded the Presidential unit citation for its action in the invasion of Los Negros of the Admiralty Group in 1944. He was released to inactive duty in Dec. 1945 as a Lieutenant at which time he resumed his duties with the W. M. Brode Co.
