Arthur Willis Brode

Arthur was above average height and weighed over 200 pounds. He had dark brown hair and light brown eyes. He was right handed. In temperament he was intermediate. He lived on a farm for about ten years when his parents moved to Buda, Ill.

He attended the public schools in Buda and in 1892 took some work in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois. He worked for a time in a pattern shop [i.e. for metal castings] at Harvey, Ill. and later was associated with his brother Francis in the lumber and hardware business at Downer's Grove, Ill. Later he went into the electrical supply business in Los Angeles, Calif. and continued in this until his death.

[I notice that Arthur patented a type of padlock in the 1890's. The move to Los Angeles was circa 1900 or a bit earlier, as he's listed in the 1900 census as living in L.A.]
